Who We Are?
Nestled in the heart of Old Town Plovdiv, Elephant House is more than just a place to stay; it's a living testament to the rich history and artistic heritage of Bulgaria. As you step through our doors, you're stepping back in time to an era where the echoes of the past resonate with the modern comforts of the present.
Elephant House has its story intertwined with the legacy of one of Bulgaria's most celebrated artists, Georgi Bozhilov, affectionately known as 'The Elephant.' Born in 1935, Georgi Bozhilov was part of the "Plovdiv 5" along with four of his colleagues. A movement and a national artistic legacy during the 1960's.
Georgi is considered to be Bulgaria's first abstract painter among other recognitions. For myself it was a thrill to learn of this history as it sent me on a wild goose chase to learn about the houses history and about The Elephant himself.
It became a neccessity then in our design plan to incorparate the artistic feild of painting as so many fondly remember the house as a working studio, with many a drink and endless nights of bohemian encounters.
This very house was his working studio where a great number of renowned plovdiv artists passed through. It's safe to say that the artistic lifestyle is a visceral one.
His working studio was right here within these walls. For decades, this house served as the birthplace of his artistic creations, where his imagination ran wild, and his brushstrokes brought canvas to life. His legacy lives on within these walls, where the spirit of 'The Elephant' is still palpable.

From the moment you cross the threshold, you'll be enveloped in the nostalgia of another era, from the rustic beams overhead to the weathered, yet resplendent, floorboards beneath your feet.
But we haven't stopped at history; we've harmoniously blended the past with the present. Our dedication to providing the highest level of modern comfort is evident in every detail. Each of our three levels invites you to step into a world of convenience, whether you're resting in the queen-sized Master Bedroom, enjoying privacy in the Second Bedroom, or basking in the comfort of our shared spaces. Our kitchen boasts the latest in modern appliances, and the balcony offers a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sounds of Opera and Jazz from our talented neighbors.
